Tribolube Oxygen-Compatible Lubricant
The Aerospace Lubricants Tribolube® line of products are designed specifically for scuba diving applications. With over 35 years of background science, Tribolube offers superior extreme pressure and anti-wear properties, thus extending equipment life by dramatically reducing corrosion. Tribolube is a synthetic lubricant that is chemically inert, oxygen-compatible, non-migrating, odourless, non-toxic, and non-flammable.

Tribolube 71 is designed for open and closed circuit diving systems. This O2 safe lubricant is compatible with all O-ring seals and materials used in the scuba industry. Tribolube also offers significantly reduced residue buildup in comparison to other oxygen compatible lubricants.

TRIBOLUBE 71 primary characteristic is that it uses PTFE that has not been irradiated. Non-irradiated PTFE over long term exposure has demonstrated it does not corrode aluminium or anodised aluminium. Tribolube-71 has a very wide temperature range, nonreactive with strong acids, oxygen, fuels, and solvents. It is an excellent anti-wear, extreme pressure lubricant with long life. Tribolube-71 is qualified to MIL-PRF-27617 types 1, 2 and 3.

Applications: TRIBOLUBE-71 is intended for use in scuba applications as well in small and large diameter ball, roller, needle, and plain bearings, threads, valves, gears, and screw actuators. It is compatible with most elastomers and plastic seals, gaskets and O-rings. Although this lubricant is very inert, newly exposed rubbing surfaces of aluminium and magnesium may react with the greases under certain conditions.

WARNING:
The Scuba Doctor only sells lubricants that are supplied directly from the factory in their carefully selected packaging, but some other retailers are purchasing in bulk containers and then repackaging it in smaller sizes. Aerospace Lubricants has advised us this is an unapproved and possibly unsafe practice. These unapproved package types contain mould release agents, silicone treated rubber stoppers in the syringes, and dyes in coloured containers, all of which can leach into the lubricant itself. These containers, along with the repackaging conditions themselves, are certain to produce lubricants which are contaminated and no longer suitable for oxygen service.

Tech Tip

How Much and Where to Use Lubricant
Some people very sparingly lubricate the SPG swivel-pin air-spool O-rings, but you should know that SPG and hose assemblies from our suppliers are never lubricated. If you do choose lube the SPG swivel-pin airspool O-rings, take care not to be so generous that lube might migrate up into the Bourdon tube mechanism and cause your SPG to become inaccurate.

Some people also sparingly lubricate the threads of valves before they are installed in the cylinder neck. Do NOT lubricate the neck O-ring itself, and do not lubricate the valve/regulator seal O-ring or DIN threads.

Most lubricant is used with dynamic seals in regulators and other equipment with moving parts. As a general rule, the O-rings used with static seals in SCUBA applications should not be lubricated at all. The lubricant just causes contamination to stick to the surface of the O-ring and results in more problems with a static seal than any dubious benefit the lubricant might provide.
