Our Favourite Cressi BCD for Recreational Diving
The Cressi Back Jac Rear Inflation BCD offers the highest lift capacity of any Cressi BC.
This enables this BCD to be used for both single cylinder and twin cylinder setups.
Ideal for cold water divers, the Cressi Back Jac BCD uses a combination of abrasion
resistant 500 Cordura and 420 denier nylon for maximum durability with minimal weight.
As well as well positioned D-rings, it has nice integrated weight pockets,
easy-to-use buckles, and plenty of adjustment options.
The rear inflation bladder of the Cressi Back Jac makes this BCD a crossover between a
full-jacket style BCD and a harness and wing style BCD. With the Cressi Back Jac,
divers used to a recreational jacket style BCD can have the added benefits of better
trim and stability a rear inflation wing provides.
The Back Jac's rear-mount air cell expands outward and never interferes with the diver’s freedom of movement.
The ergonomic design of the harness and the elastic retractor bands surrounding the air cell keep the BCD's profile
low and compact making the diver hydrodynamic when fining. Whether on a reef, wreck, or cavern penetration
dive this BCD will deliver streamline buoyancy for the most demanding diver.
The BCD is equipped with two discreet zippered concealed accessory pockets for storage of your
back-up light or small digital camera. Pockets supply more room then on other BCD's that can
barely hold your dive gloves. These pockets can be kept concealed when not in use further
streamlining your profile and avoiding snagging on the reef, wreck or in a cave.
The integrated Lock Aid quick-release weight system hold up to 9 kg (20 lbs),
4.5 kg (10 lbs) in each pocket with two rear non-releasable weight trim pockets help
increase stability in the water.
The back support is rigid for proper cylinder stability, but is fully padded for comfort.
The two-piece elastic waistband/cummerbund harness assembly is an independent suspension system
that allows the cylinder and the diver to keep proper stability and avoid cylinder shifting on the back,
while allowing the BCD's air cell to fully inflate away from the diver not causing restriction or
crushing effect as with non-ergonomic designs. Adjustable sternum straps along with both torso
adjustment straps are equipped with quick-release buckles.
The BCD has three over pressure relief/dump valves with two located on the left and right shoulders
and a third lower valve on the rear right of the air cell. All three can be manually dumped two
with pull cords and the other with the power inflator mechanism. There are six stainless steel
D-rings with two on the shoulder straps, two on the bottom of the BCD and two on the pocket
lobes for attachment of instruments and accessories. The Cressi Back Jac BCD also comes equipped with
a ridged carry handle and soft nylon adjustable carry handle.
Back Jac is manufactured with durable 500 Denier Nylon, is available in 5 sizes from XS to XL
and has excellent lift capacities that range from 13.3 kg (29.2 lbs) in the x-small and small
sizes up to 23.0 kg (50.6 lbs) in x-large. BCD comes with an Owner's Manual,
is equipped with Cressi's new power inflator mechanism.

What We Think
The Cressi Back Jac Elite BCD is our favourite BC for recreational diving. It combines the features of a jacket BCD with pockets and integrated weights, but is enhanced by having a rear inflation wing. Thus you get much better trim and stability in the water. If you come into the dive shop, it's the BCD we'd like to sell you. If your budget doesn't quite reach to this top-of-the-line model, then please consider the Cressi R1 BCD.
